Digital Content Manager

Responsibilities: The Digital Content Manager provides technical 
support for the website; provides access to, manages, and preserves 
media assets; supports databases and systems that serve the former 
functions; provides technical support for gallery and online 
exhibitions that include digital artworks; and provides general 
programming and technical support for department services and 
projects. Provides technical support for all aspects of website from 
back-end databases to client-side scripts. Programs in PHP for 
updating or creating web template pages that interface with back-end 
web database and draw data dynamically. Creates scripts such as 
Javascripts for client-side functions such as "email-this-page". 
Supports and makes changes to back-end web database in FileMaker Pro, 
including making changes to fields, calculations, tables, layouts, 
and scripts. Creates automated solutions for batch processes such as 
XML markup of large texts or batch conversion of images. Provides 
access to, manages, and preserves media assets (including images, 
audio, video, multimedia and and text) Creates and maintains digital 
asset management systems including information architecture planning 
and database development. Creates records and enters data necessary 
for access and management of media assets. Provides technical support 
for exhibitions that include diverse and experimental digital 
artworks and for digital public programs. Works with curators, 
artists, vendors, and other digital media staff to develop and 
implement a wide variety of technical components of public 
exhibitions.

Requirements and Qualifications: Demonstrated command of PHP; at 
least one computer programming language such as C, Basic, Fortran, 
Cobol, Java; and one additional scripting language such as 
Javascript, Perl, Applescript. Familiarity with developing websites, 
Filemaker databases, and the Mac platform. Ability to learn XML-based 
metadata standards used in museums and academia for managing and 
preserving digital assets, and to learn other new technical skills 
quickly and adeptly. Ability to communicate well in writing and 
verbally about technical matters with non-technical staff. Ability to 
work in a self-directed as well as collaborative manner. Creative 
technical problem solving. Knowledge of the applied computer industry 
and field of programming. Accurate color perception and visual 
acuity. Ability to physically work in low or tight places and lift 
computer equipment weighing up to 60 lbs. Valid California driver's 
license and safe driving record.

Salary: Salary range is $39,576 - $46,000, with an excellent benefits 
package including three weeks vacation and benefits for specified 
domestic partners and family members.
