Hi everybody,

since Rob has set such a good example in writing up a little announcement for SIG activities at MCN/CIMI 2001, I thought I'd follow up with news about the Digital Imaging SIG.

The SIG is sponsoring two events at the conference this year:

1. "Out In the Open: The Importance of Standards in the Museum Community," Thursday 25 October from 1:30 to 3:00, a joint production of the Standards, Vocabulary and Digital Imaging SIG - see Rob's e-mail for a nifty blurb - I didn't dare to copy & paste without prior written consent :-)

2. "Zooming In: Dynamic Imaging Servers & File Formats," Friday 26 October from 11:00 - 12:30, brought to you exclusively by the Digital Imaging SIG. This panel stacked with 5 expert speakers examines servers and file formats which allow the delivery of zoomable images. No more thumbnail, access and high-resolution images cluttering up your server - dynamic file formats spit out images to measure on the fly.

Also mark your calendar for the annual SIG meeting on Saturday 27 October from 10:00 - 11:00am - there's no better way to meet fellow professionals, get sound advice or get involved in shaping future MCN conferences and projects. On the agenda: the future of Digital Imaging SIG Features for eSpectra (see the first installment at http://www.mcn.edu/espectra/digimg1.html), the future of the SIG website in the age of ftp access to it (we can now maintain our own little niche on the MCN website), and session proposals for MCN 2002.

Hope to see you all there,
Guenter
