One other reason I can think of is weight.  The tracking coils inside the
optical block would require more power both to accelerate the lens to move
it into position and to hold it against the force of gravity.  Perhaps in a
component deck that would be of little consequence, but it would certainly
affect the anti-shock capability and battery life of a porty.
