<< What are: "planogrammed", "high-bay gondola", "grid" >> (Simon)
Some trade expressions are difficult to define, and "high-bay gondola" is
one of them. I'll try, though. A gondola, in a retail sense, refers to a
store fixture that consists of a row of standing metal grids (on which
product can be hung) supported on the far ends by single grids that are
positioned like bookends on a shelf. These grids have notches on their
sides that permit the placement of shelves. A high-bay gondola is
differentiated from a low-bay gondola by height. High-bay gondolas are
typically topped by platforms that support boxstock product such as
televisions and computers, etc. Low-bay gondolas are considerably shorter,
and one can see above them. Because high-bay gondolas obscure customers'
views, they are typically placed along a store's perimeter, while low-bay
gondolas are found mostly in the centre of a store, where Best Buy stores
often have their music software department. Most newer stores have fewer
high-bay gondolas than low-bay gondolas. The oldest Best Buy stores are
more likely to have their minidisc sections placed on high-bay gondolas,
where accessory product can be merchandised above the shelves and the
portable display fixture.
Incidentally, I displayed the MDP1 today since no one in my store had
displayed it yesterday when the ad was set (I merchandise my store's
computer department). It is quite obviously a Sony design. Its battery
compartment alone gives its origins away. The MDP1, by the way, comes with
a NiMH AA-sized battery.
As for Audiophase being a "Best Buy brand", that is definitely untrue, as a
search on the Internet would reveal that Audiophase product is sold in other
outlets besides Best Buy. One can't always trust what salespeople say.

P.S. The amulation server must have been down for awhile, or something, as
my Friday post was delayed by two days....
