Hmm, as far as I know, the SB Live! line of soundcards is not 100%
SB16 compatible at hardware level: Being PCI cards, they still require
emulation drivers. Now, Creative Labs can be expected to produce some
well working drivers, but I have found (dos-)apps which will not
run with these drivers...
But now I have to praise some of the good sides of the SB-Live!s:

The analogue output of the SB Live! has been tested and approved to be
much better sounding than old ISA-cards like the SB16: There have
been huge improvements in the soundcard-quality and nearly all of
today's decent soundcards have a very good frequency response and
high signal to noise ratios etc. If you like this sound is a different
thing, but technically, it's superior...
