MD Fans,
The only pre-recorded MD I have ever seen was found by me in a demo
portable I bought ahile ago. The salesman had forgotten to remove it.
It was a live Modern Rock sampler and sounded as good as any live CD I
have ever heard. (Yes, I kept it!) I have NEVER seen any MD's for sale
and wouldn't even really know where to go to find any. Sony has been
almost blasting the TV airwaves with ads for their new four-times-normal
-speed MD copying deck, at least here in the New York metro area. It
seems pretty obvious to me that Sony (and the other manufacturers) have
decided to push MD as a recording technology rather than a playback
technology. I mainly use my deck to archive my favorite songs. I have
recorded over 70 discs and there's no end in sight. (I have a LARGE CD
collection.) I find I rarely listen to CD's now, as a lot of my
favorite music is now on my "Greatest Hits" MD's. Most of my audiophile
friends have heard of MD, even if they have never even seen or heard one
in use. As soon as I show them how cool it is, they seem to get pretty
enthusiastic about it. It is (or should be) apparent to any one with
eyes, ears, and good sense, that it's a compellingly desireable addition
to the audio world. I, for one, hope it stays around for a long time.
(It will for me, at least, as long as I can find and buy MD blanks...)
Tom
