Wow. I thought that I was the oldest dude here. I remember when I was a little
boy and they just came out with 45s.
I guess what it comes down to is whether you are the kind of person who collects
antiques or Pentium 10's with a million HZ.
I can appreciate what you are saying but to me clean sound is what I want. I
don't enjoy all of those clicks and pops. And I HATE tape hiss. I think one of
my most hated things when it comes to recorded music is tape hiss (well hum is
up there pretty high too).
I just don't have the appreciation for older stuff. I hate Shakespeare. To me
the decor of a person's house filled with so called antiques is "early flea
market".
Does that make you wrong or me wrong. Of course not.
For me the appreciation of music started in the early sixties. In addition to
all of the groups that were around then and all of the British groups (I was
really into British rock-even they they stole it all from us) and I love folk
music.
I don't want to stray too far off of the topic, but for some reason folk music
seems to really have died and just can't make a come back. The sixties to early
seventies rock is still big. But it's hard to find people who like folk music.
I'm just going to stray once more, I think that the introduction of electric
guitars and drums into folk music (so called folk rock) killed folk. But now
you turn around and find heavy rock groups "unplugged". I don't get it.
I do appreciate older "hi fi" electronics. Still have a Bogen Tube amp (Bogen
made mostly PA type amps and their stereo line was kind of off the path. The
big name back then was Fisher. Now Fisher is crap.
But the hum levels on the old tube amps were very high and annoying to me. The
first CDs were "too" digital. They had an unreal sound to them. Like the first
ATRAC version. They added what I call digital artifacts. These are sounds that
don't belong there and in theory you're not supposed to be able to hear. But
you can hear them.
I just killed an ant on my rug what was almost an inch long!! When I was
growing up ants were little tiny things. So maybe progress has it's down side
too. Must be all of that radiation from all of those lasers, big screen tvs and
computer monitors.
Hey you have a great day,
Larry
