The obvious solution to this, in my eyes, is for Sony to introduce a 
hybrid audio/data MiniDisc. Using the same disc, you can *either* record 
74 minutes of ATRAC'd digital audio *or* store 120-odd MB of MP3 data. 
Either way you pay $2 for the disk. The data transfer for MP3 data would 
be a bit slower than transfer to solid state "memory sticks," but the 
cost factor would wipe the solid state storage devices off the map.
