The white MagicGate memory sticks have some kind of security features
on-chip... I'm not sure what they are, but I'm sure Sony have tested

I don't think it has a line-in (not that sophisticated! ;)). Still,
that's irrelevant...

You get the signouts back when you sign the music back in! :)

I don't know if there is or not... this is just stuff I've gleaned from
my research.

It definitely competes. Better (more comfortable) form factor,
incredibly superior screen (4x number of pixels, and infinitely
brighter), and Memory Stick rather than SD.
And a jog dial and dedicated DSP (you can't listen to MP3s on a 505).
There are a few downsides (it's mostly plastic and is less rugged, and
the screen's softer), but it wins out in my opinion.

lot considering the price of MDs.
