does your computer have an ip address that exists in a boundary that isn't
AD site based (it's in a workgroup), use an ip range for that ip (temp
boundary)

If you want windows updates to installed include SMSMP=FQDN in your Setup
windows and configmgr step Installation Properties,
the old switch SMSSLP is retired as is the Server Locator Point role.

and lastly have you deployed a SUG containing some updates to a collection
that this workgroup computer is in ?
