Cathy,

We had and still have cooling issues.

The first thing we did was to rearrange our data center into a "hot
isle/cold isle" scheme. This helped some but because of the small size
of our data center we were not able to completely adopt this
arrangement.

The next thing on our agenda is to do some work on our air handler. We
have a raised floor and a lowered ceiling. Currently the air handler
sucks in air directly from the data center and forces it under the floor
cooled. However, since the air it is sucking in contains both hot and
cold air it is not work efficiently. So, we are going to place a hood on
our air handler so that it sucks air directly from the plenum (above the
lower ceiling). We will place vented tiles above the servers and vented
floor tiles in front of the servers. In this way the hot air will
collect quickly above the ceiling and be captured directly by the
plenum. Since an air handler works most efficiently when it is sucking
hot air we hope to see further improvement.

We are also evaluating APC side cooling units which fit between our
cabinets.

Thanks,
Mike Cottle

Hi Everyone,
We are experiencing a few enviromental problems in our server room (air
conditioning issues). We were curious is anyone else has experience
problems in the past with cooling issues and if so how you have resolved
them. Do you have a redundant airconditioning system, sealed off room
or something to that nature? Any tidbits would be greatfully
appreciated.
