I would have a problem with the door method.

First, I would assume that all your rooms are private otherwise you
would have more than one barcode on your doors.

I would then be concerned on how rigorously the barcodes are being
removed and added to the doors.

I would also be concerned about actual value that this process provides.
It can't really be said to provide anything to patient safety since the
patient is on the other side of the door when the scanning is done. I
suppose it might help with charge capture.

However, so that this message doesn't sound overly critical, I really
like the name of your hospital! Blah, blah.

We are in the testing stages of BMV, w/ plans to go
LIVE in fall.  Right now what we're thinking about is
having the barcode holding the patient identification
on the outside of the door where the patient's name
is.

All scanning of meds would occur outside the room,
including scanning the barcode w/ the patient
identifier.  Then the nurse will do the 'manual' check
we are currently doing now w/ paper MAR's asking the
patient to state their name and DOB before s/he gives
the patient the medications.

I'd sure be open to other ideas.
