Just had to jump in here. We converted to icons at a site and the users
loved it. They too had been using meditech for years but it seems to
bring us into the next century. And, the best part of all, training
time is decreased because the icons make sense rather than trying to
learn numbers. So, just in training new users alone it was wonderful
and made so much more sense when implementing the status board and
process flowsheet as well.

I agree with this. Users get used to the numbers and positions of the
routines they use in their menus, and changing to the Desktop menus,
with the Cascading Features, can be quite confusing for them. I find
that people have internalized position more than the name of a routine,
and don't always recognize it in the Cascading menu. If there were
something about this type of menu that made it easier for the end user,
I would switch, but I have found the opposite to be true.

The issue with using the desktop menus for users is that they now must
become mouse proficient. That may be a hurdle for some users and if
you
are using laptops with a small mouse pad it can increase that level of
difficulty. To me there should be a reason for changes we make. If
users have been navigating their menus fine without the mouse, what is
the reason you give the users for changing up their whole navigation
structure?

Now, in some instances there might be a good reason to change to the
desktop menus. But, I think that decision should be made because the
benefits clearly out weight the detractions - not simply because
Meditech can do it.

I disagree, we use Meditech workstation 4 exclusively and NUI style
menus for most users

Don't go changing the menus to desk top! If you keep the menus the
same, users will only have the color difference to contend with. If
you
have attributes or NPR reports that print to screen you may need to
adjust them to work with NUI because the row/column stuff is
different.
