Hi Nancy.

Everyone grumbles about any downtime, however, we have scheduled the version updates to occur during the regular business day. The line of reasoning the I/S department has successfully argued, at least up to now, is:  Should (when?) something hits the fan, then the first string Varsity players at Meditech are available to resolve the problems AND the hospital personnel who know the 30+ modules that we have implemented are available to test and look for problems.  Paying to have the additional necessary staff on-hand to test the modules is another cost that we can avoid by upgrading during the day shift on Mondays-Thursdays.

We have paid the additional money a couple of times in the past 10 years to have some major hardware upgrades occur during the wee hours on a Saturday morning.  The first time things went wrong and the Meditech system was down 23 hours, partially due to difficulty contacting knowledgeable assistance from the hardware vendor.  After that first time most of the hardware upgrades performed on the weekends went OK.

I am concerned about this very issue, and whether this practice of scheduling software upgrades to occur during the normal business day will be allowed to continue.  There is talk about obtaining and implementing LSS and setting up several Physician Offices to use this software. The offices would hence be on our Meditech servers.  I have an uneasy feeling that the days of having software upgrades during normal hours may be gone.  Unfortunately, the reasoning to perform the upgrades as before has not changed, and in fact, the cost of doing the upgrades during off-ours has increased since LSS would also be involved.

Good luck.

Doug

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Time your hospital does the application updates

I was wondering if Randolph Hospital is the only facility that has a horrible time making everyone happy when to do the updates such as 5.5.

My understanding is that Meditech does it 9am Mon - Thurs or pay $$$ for 3 or 5 am Mon - Thur or pay More $$$$$ to have it done Sat/Sun 9am.

3 or 5am options are not available on Sat/Sun.

Most everyone is in agreement except for Diagnostic Imaging.  They want it done after 11 pm Saturday and before 8 am Sunday.

Can others tell me when you do the updates.

Thanks,

Nancy Lucas
