Jeff:
Theoretically, there should be no reason why you couldn't schedule a
report to find these events to output to a thermal label. I originally
started down this path, but aborted shortly into it since I decided to
do a different solution. Any chance you have Interbit's Netprint or
Mprint? My solution is to schedule a report that runs every 20 minutes.
This report finds new nursing eMAR requests (Holds, DC's, etc) as well
as new allergies entered on accounts. I output this report to print to
virtual MPrint printers that reside on Pharmacy PC's. Instead of
printing paper or label, the solution uses the MPrint alarm feature.
The pharmacists are alerted by a tone and message that a new request or
allergy has been entered for a patient. The RP responds to the alarm
and opens the PDF containing the report I generated in NPR that finds
the events. The RP sees the account, RX, and any other pertinent
information required to respond to the nursing event. We even use this
solution to alert pharmacy to request generated off of CDS query
responses that trigger print messages to print to this virtual printer
solution. This solution works well for us. The report runs every 20
minutes (scheduled in MIS) and we find this turnaround to be acceptable.
It avoids phone calls to pharmacy. Having said all this, you could as
well modify this solution to output the NPR results to some print media
as opposed to a virtual printer as we are using. Either way you go, it
starts with an NPR report to find and report the events you are
interested sending to pharmacy and schedule this report to run in MIS at
the frequency you need for an acceptable turnaround.
I understand that Meditech's 5.6 version will include enhanced
communication features with Pharmacy, but not certain what they look
like or how they work.
Good luck.....
Jim

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Hold Acknowledgement Notification in PHA
I know Magic's shortcomings regarding efficient communication of
eMAR Hold Acknowledgements to pharmacy has been discussed often here,
but does anyone have something new to offer? We are being told to
schedule a report (what report?) to print every so often, but I am
skeptical about this. Can anyone who successfully uses this process give
me some specifics that I can take to I.S.? We certainly want to utilize
this functionality and decrease telephone calls and forms, but our
pharmacists are constantly super busy with a backlog of orders and tend
not to deal with reports until caught up (i.e. never). We are very label
driven though. Has anyone come up with a way to get the Hold
Acknowledgement to print on a thermal label? Thanks for any
contributions.
