Janet: An alternate way is to still include the directions but put a dot in front of them, such as .Q4H. That way the nurse can still see what the directions are supposed to be but they fall to the bottom of the Select Interventions list and the Worklist from the Status Board. We found we had to do this anyway for items that we weren't documenting on in order for the acuity to work properly.
As to the verified/unverified orders showing on the Status Board, are you CPOE? We won't be doing that until later this year. In the meantime, only unverified orders are showing on our status board, e.g. new unit secretaries. This is POM parameter driven. Ours are currently blank. Alternatively, you can remove the Ver/Ack access from the OE Access dictionary for your users or simply not put the Orders on the Status Board. Once physicians are entering orders, nursing will need to acknowledge their orders (receipt that they have read). I hope this helps. If you have interventions that are not to be documented on, just remove the directions and they will not show up on the Status Board or in the Worklist. If you have interventions that you want available from the status board or Worklist but not due at any particular time, you can use directions with a period in front of it. (For example: .PRN) The period causes the program to ignore the directions but the intervention will be on the Status Board and Worklist at the very bottom with a due time of (...). I have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help me with. First, when I use the worklist function, every single intervention shows up. We have a lot of interventions that we don't necessarily document on, they are just what we should be doing from the plan of care....skin care, etc. We also have a lot of teaching interventions, but we don't have directions on them. They are taught as needed. I'd like the teaching interventions to show on the worklist but I don't want all of the other documentations to show. Is there somewhere you can say to only show interventions with certain print priorities or something? Also, when we enter orders they are verified. Is there someway to have the status board know that they are verified and do not need to be acknowledged? Thanks.
