1. Yes, we have a PACS administrator
2. IT
3. My background is IT, to me and also speaking with modality vendors, they
like to work with someone with an IT background. Most of the PACS
"administration" is IT related. As long as your IT person learns the Rad
language they should have no problem. I see more of a problem teaching
someone that has a clinical background Unix commands and fixing Oracle
databases than teaching an IT person the Rad terms.
4. I am a full time employee, I work as the Clinical Systems Analyst and the
PACS Administrator.
5. My suggestion would be to put an IT person in the position, have them
spend a day or two with each modality tech (be it CT, MRI, US) so they can
learn what the difference is between each modality and maybe pick up on some
of the terms.

Good luck, if you have any other questions or concerns feel free to contact
me!

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] Looking for info on PACS Administrator position

To Facilities with PACS :

We are looking for feedback from other Meditech hospitals who have
PACS.
1. Do you have a PACS administrator?
2. Does the position report to Medical Imaging or IT?
3. Do you feel it is more important to have a clinical background with some
IT knowledge or a strong IT background with some clinical knowledge?
4. Is the position full time or part time?
5. Any other information, do-s or don'ts you would like to share would be
appreciated.

Thanking all who reply in advance.
