We are looking for feedback from other Meditech hospitals who
have
PACS.
1. Do you have a PACS administrator?
Yes, one at each of our main sites. (total of 3 out of 8 sites).
They also have one IT support person dedicated to them who assists with
technical items.
2. Does the position report to Medical Imaging or IT?
Medical imaging. The IT Support person permanently assigned to
them is part of IT but paid for by the PACS project and later on DI
dept. That person will continue to work there until all the remaining
PACS implementations are done (we have 1 large and 4 small sites to go)
and then his coming back to IT will be evaluated. His position was
already replaced inside IT so not sure if there will be a place for that
person to come back to.
3. Do you feel it is more important to have a clinical background with
some
IT knowledge or a strong IT background with some clinical knowledge?
We have both types. The PACS administrators all have a DI
background with strong PACS knowledge - they answer queries and deal
with medical type issues including dealing with the medical staff. They
then also communicate with the IT Liasion if technical issues are
identified.
4. Is the position full time or part time?
All are full time.
5. Any other information, do-s or don'ts you would like to share would
be
appreciated.
You would need to ask the PACS team that. If interested let me
know and I will put you in contact with them.
BTW, we are an AGFA pacs shop using IBM SAN/Sun Servers.
