So I think what you're suggesting is to stop using the mailman engine to handle [email protected] and instead to use vBulletin as the engine. However the mailing-list as such will still work and there could be entire threads with only mail participants who are blissfully unaware of the forum interface :) This, to me, is not at all the same as "shutting down the mailing list".
