Not sure how do you get this conclusion? Meego is not derived from any else.
so I think fedora 13 is the prefer DEV ENV.
Several (not only one specific distro) can be used as development
environment.

aren't you on the wrong forum to complain that debian is missing a
package for pykickstart? perhaps the debian bug tracker is the right place.
google -> pykickstart -> shows source code link on the page right there.
this has nothing to do with there being a "blessed" development distro.
The only "blessed" MeeGo development distro is "MeeGo" and nothing else.
The rest we try to support, nothing more. Best Effort (TM).
as a side note, we need a wiki page that documents which distro's work,
with package instructions etc.
Aside of that, this image creator is a broken concept by requiring to be
root. Almost every build system out there (OE, buildroot, LTIB, etc..)
have learned to create image without the need to be root.
good, send patches to fix, I look forward to seeing them.
But it seem to be pointless trying to ...
if it's pointless, don't bring it up.
