1) We should apply our brains to getting Debian to boot and run on as many pieces of kit as possible. Take for example the O2 Joggler; it is a reasonably capable machine (esp at the current pricepoint), but the boot process is 'hidden' and once it has booted, the machine is restricted. We should apply our brains to the problem, and make sure that the first outside OS that boots on it is Debian, rather than Ubuntu, Meego etc etc. Moreover, Debian should become a clearing house for such efforts, so that when a new piece of kit comes on the market, Debian is everyone's first choice and people do not have to start from zero every time. 2) Debian should support and publicise projects like Ofono and any other projects that deal with mobile communications. If such projects were available as .deb file, with proper pre-requisites (and testing programs) everyone would benefit. The primary developers could get on with the job and hand a lot of the support functions over. 3) Debian should support and publicise a project to get Android apps running on vanilla Debian. These three courses of action would fit well with Debian's goal of being an open system. I would much rather have a system now, that runs on current hardware (with USB GSM and 3G modems (with voice)) than wait for 6 months for some vendor to adopt Meego. If Debian can achieve these goals, then the others (ie the user interface etc) will follow because Debian can easily deal with RPMs. We could also salvage all the bits that were abandoned when Meego took over. Note the strong emphasis on publicity. Hopefully some of this is already happening, but the average man in the street (like myself) may be unaware of this.
