There's some noise that GCC 4.6 may introduce a binary break again (first one 
since 3.4).

Though I have to say, I've been hearing this since 4.3 and it hasn't happened 
yet.

But GCC 4.6 is one year away; the CodeSourcery release with it should come in 
2011Q3, which means we'd start using it at the earliest for a 2012 release.

And even then, there may be workarounds possible (e.g., Qt doesn't use STL, so 
splitting out libsupc++ from the rest of libstdc++ is a solution).
