I am independently trying this as well and am also having issues. I am
running Ubuntu 9.04.

I did figure that out. The Ubuntu 9.04 packaged version is 0.17 and the
command uses options added in 0.18. The latest is 0.19 but I have not
got that to work yet either. However I did update the wiki to say "at
least 0.19".
After doing this I still get an error at run time from sqlite. Looking
into it I found that sqlite3 could not read the file either. Looks like
this is a known issue and its impact on mic is also known.

I will update the mic info page on the wiki to say Ubuntu 9.04 is a
known non-starter.
