Hello!

It seems that in your mind, each vendor will provide their own app
store,

it will be the very common case where the vendor will decide which of
the various app stores he will use.
appstores are 'the thing' nowadays, and Nokia and Intel each have their
own already.... I wouldn't be surprised if
others either do their own completely, or syndicate an existing one but
with their own control.

My comments regarding AppStores:
* The central AppStore that Apple offers likely sounds good to a provider (control, central, big) but what I read from the press is that besides the political aspects the Apple AppStore is neither safe nor secure. Apple is likely only doing automated scans of the software so "bad" software did get through and likely a lot of softare that crashes also gets through. So the application in the Apple appstore are not better than the apps in the maemo repositories because the Apple app store is save or Apple is doing fancy checks on the software. There are likely others reasons for that, some of them are related to critical masses of apps, users and users.

* Fragmented app stores on the other hand have marketing problems because they are simply smaller and quality is poor (seems like that sometimes is the case with Adroid app stores, having a natial app store version already has negative influence). App stores in this case start to be a burdon for the provider not a feature.

Conclusion: app stores are very new and everybody tries to immitate the currently successful model, but this model has its defiencies , too, and it is possible that providers opinion will change and there will be room for other solutions, that are centralized, of high quality and have very low entry barrier. Thus we should not get too influenced by the current situation but strongly sell our vision als alternative and better aproach.

If we are not talking about phone, things might be different (cars, TVs) since Apple and Android have not app stor yet and thus the starting sutuation is different.
