I think you're missing some details here.  It's not the "Red Hat version", 
sources.redhat.com is merely a hosting site, and that version is in fact the 
official GNU libc, the ones you'd get from ftp.gnu.org<ftp://ftp.gnu.org>.

eglibc is a fork, created initially because the glibc project declined to 
continue full support for certain embedded scenarios.

So while you might be right that eglibc is more suited to certain situations 
(basically, if the processor architecture is not well supported by glibc), the 
terms you've used to describe this are incorrect.

Is there a reason that MeeGo uses the Red Hat version of glibc[0] versus the 
GNU version of glibc[1]?

It seems eglibc is more appropriate for embedded systems.
