Today Maliit, provider of the MeeGo Input Methods, moved into its new
home. It's a bit unfurbished, but we have our own domain [D] (currently
forwards to our wiki page at meego.com) and our own Gitorious project
[G]. There are plans to build a real website around this.

With our own project website and our own Gitorious project, Maliit will
finally be an open project, independent from Harmattan or MeeGo. This
will allow us to focus more on what we *want* do to, instead of always
having to reach deadlines set up by others. As it will also move the
communication more into the open (we could have our own public bug
tracker!), this will enable potential contributors to participate beyond
the occasional thanks-for-the-patch level.

In that sense, MeeGo and Harmattan (and potentially other platforms) -
which use and integrate Maliit - will become downstream projects of it.
We will assign team members that specifically work on the integration
bits for MeeGo and Harmattan, as those are our most important downstream
projects.

However, MeeGo will receive most of our attention in the upcoming
months, as we want to improve its input method experience for MeeGo 1.3.
For instance, our reference keyboard in MeeGo is clearly not as polished
(or complete) as we'd like to see it. For instance, an input method
usually requires a good word prediction and error correcting engine, but
so far there's no such engine in MeeGo, despite the abundance of decent
opensource engines. We need to fix that.

Together with this announcement, Maliit drops its MeeGo Touch
dependencies. Within the next few weeks, we will have remove most traces
in our project pointing towards the old remains of MeeGo Touch (we will
eventually remove all traces).

This is in alignment with our roadmap for MeeGo 1.3 [R], and we feel
that such a drastic move is the best way to reach our MeeGo 1.3 goals in
time. You can find a detailed list of of related tasks on our wiki [W],
in case you want to help out during this transitional phase.

Expect our LMT-free packages to hit MeeGo trunk very soon.
