Craig,
If your engineer knows the law (and for the money he's charging i would
suspect/hope? he does) you should "not" have any problems although i don't know
where he got 1285 mm as the track specification of a stock P510 which I have
assumed you have. The correct figure is 1280 mm or 50.4" and the SSS is 1306 mm
(51.4").  The maximum track for the P510 is 1306 mm (51.4") and the P510SSS is
1331 mm (52.4")

Under the National Guidelines you are allowed to extend the track 25.4 mm ( 1")
and this can be approved by rego authorities without the need for engineering.
An engineer will only be interested in the track if modifications to struts,
brakes, wheels etc. are an issue and as you have said suspension I spose that's
reasonable.
