Ric,
I don't think i can do much better without looking at all the specs, have you got a 
pic of the engine bay as this might give me a better idea of what it's out off. The 
Stanza L16 engine will respond in the same way as any other L series with head work 
etc. or it may
have high top pistons fitted etc. The fuel setup seems like a compromise when it was 
fitted to the 1600, may be your 16 doesn't have a fuel return line.
