Reskinning the top is a Job any home handy person can do.
Smooth out the ripples in the cracked surface or cover it with a thin layer
of foam rubber. Get half a meter of black stretch vinyl from Clark Rubber
(about $6) and a small tin of upholstery contact adhesive (also available at
Clark Rubber). Stick one edge of the vinyl to the front edge (nearest
windscreen)of the dash pad. Trim the vinyl to approx size then glue it on
the opposite side of the dash pad, pull the vinyl firmly over the foam then
stick it. Repeat for each end. Trim any excess vinyl off and clean off any
visible adhesive. Dont panic if you dont get a perfect job first time, you
can unstick the vinyl and repeat the glueing procedure to remove any
wrinkles.
