Terry,

I was getting a bit paranoid about the fact that my springs rattled around
on the struts when the suspension is at full extension. This is normally not
a problem, but I am going to go through the engineering saga soon and I just
know that if the springs are spotted moving around on the struts when the
car is up on the hoist, that questions will be asked - or more likely they
will say "Go away you silly man, and come back when you've done it
properly".

Anyway, by using the 240K tops (with slightly higher springs) the car stays
at the same ride height, but the springs are a bit longer, so they don't
move on the strut anymore. (I am just using cut down 200B sprigs with the
ends re-set so they seat properly)

Thanks Pete,
To stop the minor spring rattle you get with 200B struts and eg 1600 Euro
springs such as I use, I've used the common solution of tie downs through
the convenient holes in the spring perch which solves the problem. The
rattle either was overlooked by the engineer when I had the brakes inspected
or they thought it wasn't a problem. I only noticed it after everything
settled down and it was only apparent at very low speed such as entering the
driveway. I then fitted the tie downs when I worked out what the noise was
and I've never heard the rattle again since.

I'm trying to get the brain around why the 240K strut tops would eliminate
spring rattle with our combination without the need for tie downs. I've
drawn out the two systems and the only apparent difference is that the
suspension height would decrease by the difference in the height of the
strut tops. The distance between the spring perch and the insulator would
appear to be constant but maybe there's something I'm missing here. Anything
to do with the fact that the car will have a minor nose down attitude with
the shorter insulators.

regards
Terry

Terry,

I've got 200B struts in mine with the 240K tops. They fit up fine, but as
Malcolm says, you need to take the 3 mounting holes out a tad (there's
bugger all in it). Not sure on 180B struts.

I've always used 1600 insulators with strut changes. Do we have the problem
that Malcolm has told us about with the Aussie 240K (C110) struts as a lot
of ppl have them in their 1600. Anyone out there care to inform me the pros
& cons of fitting 240K struts here. Also what about the easier to get these
days C210 Skyline struts, which insulators can we use, 1600 ones fit Ok, but
a few mm lower in the front would be good, especially if you get spring
rattle which is annoying.

I took the 810SSS 180B front legs out and put in C110 240KGT legs.
The bolt patteren on the 240K is bigger than 510,610,710,810.
Only had to file out about 2.5mm on each hole on the body.

Dont mix up between 180K and 240K they are different.
180K will bolt straight in 240K doesn't.
