Richard,
I have an option 2 I used in my Stanza race car. The speeds in gears @ 7000
rpm 1st, 85k 2nd,124k 3rd,154k 4th,175k 5th, 200k
As you said a big effort to get of the line but after that it is like
driving a motocrosser through the gears.
Cheers,
Feral Errol.

I agree.

Once you have driven a CR box which only allows revs to drop around
1000/1500 between gears, you get very pissed off with either screaming in
the lower gear to be in the power band in the next gear, or waiting for
action till the revs climb back into the power band in the next gear.

There is nothing better than driving a car with a highly modified engine
with a narrow power band, and always having a gear to use in the power
band.
More 6 speed CR boxes please Mr Nissan.

The drag boys wont agree, but I like a "tall" first that requires a fair
bit
of clutch slip to get rolling, but takes you over 100 kay's in first then
drops only 1500RPM to be on 4000 in second. Such a box was homologated for
the 1600SSS raced here in the early 70's, but its only a four speed.

I admit I dont drive in the city much and such a box is pretty impractical
in daily driving. The MK1 Cooper S, and the M21 box in an LJ XU1 were both
reasonably close gear sets. Both cars are very good fun to play on the
gearstick with.

Incidentally, just been reading a British Mag on Jap Imports. They test a
Skyline GTR (BCNR33) owned by the only Skyline importer in the UK. They
were amazed to find its fitted with a (non standard) 6 speed sequential -
built in AUSTRALIA. (A Hollinger box, which is the only thing built
capable
of taking the 700 plus HP of this car and has a modern fingertip flick
gearshift. The Poms were impressed.
