That's quite funny that he had so many problems. He's sucking either hot
water if there's any at the top of the radiator or hot air through the motor
instead of water.. Hmm.. Maybe somebody should politely tell him... :)
Well, You learn by other people's mistakes... :)
Maybe because the thermostat is on the inlet that he got confused..

Geordie,
At the risk of confusing this matter completely :
The guy with the roadster has had MAJOR problems with overheating. He has
emailed me numerous times. The head has been off repeatedly and last time I
spoke to him he was so fed up that he was going to pull the SR and put the
standard engine back in! So that doesn't bide well for having the inlet on
the top.
Having said that, my SR is set up exactly the same (but with N13 rad) and it
has never had an overheating problem. Ever. Not even a bit. None. Zero. Cool
as.
Maybe it is just because my rad uses an overflow bottle, so it is always
full to the top, so never sucks any air. I totally agree with what Luke said
though. It makes good sense. Best I keep my rad full up!!

Sounds like logic to me too. But check out this link. This dude has put it
on back to front... I wonder if he's getting air bubbles??
http://www.rp.csiro.au/~ksmart/dsd/projectsr20.html
Then again, the S14 manual says the inlet is an outlet... and the outlet is
an outlet...
The manual also shows the thermostat where the inlet should be...
I suppose the real question is.. "Is too much information dangerous?"

My response to that would be that the water would be pumped from the bottom
of
the motor (so that it always has a solid head of water to pump from ie no
air)
to the top so the water outlet would be at the top (regardless of which side
of
the motor) and should be connected to the top of the radiator and vice versa
for
the bottom. Though I haven't got an sr20 yet.
