Hi everybody,
I am proud to announce that I have finally got the SR20 in my TRX on the
weekend. Now here comes the fun task of re-wiring the loom back to the
computer, hooking up the turbo & plumbing, attaching the tailshaft, hook up
the clutch slave cylinder, then going exhust shopping.... Fun times ahead.
After installing a Series 3 x-member under the front, I found that the
motor sat very nicely onto it without modifying the mounts one iota...
GRRRREAT!!!!!!! Halfway in, balanced on the chain I hear that all-too
unpleasant yet familiar sound of "*TINK*, rattle rattle, BANG...Thud.." Then
found myself at the hardware store buying the BIGGEST DAM CHAIN they had..
:)
After much stressing about how much further back the gearstick would be
compared to the old one, I discovered that after my estimates of 4-5 inches,
in the usual typical male inch-guessing inaccuracies, I merely had to peel
back 1 inch of carpet and angle-grind me a little bit longer than normal
gearstick hole. Funny thing that, the gearstick is shorter than the standard
one, but the gearbox likes to sit it'self about 2 inches higher than
normal...
So now my dilemma is as thus... The standard tailshaft appears to be about
1 inch too long in the spline.. I have a spare tailshaft zackly same as the
one that's on. Anyway, Is there anything stopping me from chopping off the
metal jacket from the spline so it can sit inside the end of the SR20 Gbox??
Secondly, am I able to chop off about 1cm from the end of the spline if
required???
Failing that, how difficult is it to undo the uni-joint and stick the SR20
spline onto that joint?
Thanks.......
