Sounds like a good weekend was had. I've made a few comments on your shaft 
questions below.

You can do that, it's quite common. We do it on FJ boxes with no apparent 
problems.

Uni joints can be a bitch to get apart but with patience it isn't too bad a 
job. If you have the correct SR gearbox spline especially if its the original 
one from your gearbox, this is what i would be trying to do. The only thing to 
check is whether or not the SR spline takes the same size uni as the Bluebird 
shaft so the spline and the shaft can be mated properly. You don't want this 
joint to fail as it's very ugly having a tailshaft spinning at 6000rpm under a 
car unattached.
