Hey Geordie,
Sounds like you are starting to appreciate why I spent some extra cash and
bought a 1/2 cut! :)
The only plumbing you really need is the bit that goes across the front of
the engine into the throttle body. This bit is nice to have because it has a
gentle taper from small to large as it approaches the throttle body -
difficult to replicate by hand. It also has the barb fitting that you need
to supply the Idle air control assy. The rest of the plumbing (it is
considerable) probably wouldn't be of much use to you. I'll have a sniff
around..
I would not recommend running without an intercooler. The maps in the ECU
are written around an engine with an intercooler. If you run without one and
then start upping the boost a bit (like ya do...) you are heading for a very
expensive experience. The standard 180SX/Silvia ones are pretty cheap to
buy. There are much better 'coolers around, but I would suggest that you use
one of these as a minimum.
I don't want Geordie's next post to be "Wanted : cheap pistons and gasket
kit to suit SR20...."
'later
PL

Subject: RE: Tailshaft Spline Questions!
I agree with your last comment. The Uni joint on the SR spline looks to be
pressed together. Maybe I should pay someone to put the spline onto the old
tailshaft if the first or second fix doesn't work...
I think that for method number 2, that the spline pushes it'self into the
gearbox anyway, however far it needs to go within reason.. So that would
probably be a last resort..
Another question.. I need to replace/aquire the plumbing that goes between
the turbo and the throttle. That's the bit that goes across the front of the
motor. Is it wise to go to Nissan Australia for this or get it made to suit,
or is there something I can buy from somebody you know?
I also need the rubber hose that goes from the air filter to the inlet on
the turbo... Can you help me with this?
I rang Nissan, and apparently silvia parts are SPECIAL order type of
arrangement in Australia, so the dude said to go and have a look at his
catalog and try to pick the parts I need. He said it may cost a few hundred
bucks.. I know these things are expensive hoses, but to pay hundreds for 2
or 3 hoses is a bit dumb if I can get them made or whatever... Any clues on
that one?
Cheers.

Geordie,
Sounds like a good weekend was had. I've made a few comments on your shaft
questions below.

Gbox??
You can do that, it's quite common. We do it on FJ boxes with no apparent
problems.

Don't know about this one, sounds like a bit of a dodgy fix.

Uni joints can be a bitch to get apart but with patience it isn't too bad a
job. If you have the correct SR gearbox spline especially if its the
original
one from your gearbox, this is what i would be trying to do. The only thing
to
check is whether or not the SR spline takes the same size uni as the
Bluebird
shaft so the spline and the shaft can be mated properly. You don't want this
joint to fail as it's very ugly having a tailshaft spinning at 6000rpm under
a
car unattached.

Terry
