I need some info on cylinder heads as fitted to L16's.
I am looking at 2 motors and one has an A87 head and the other has a
A210(?)
What's the difference?
210
head is the base factory head fitted to L14/L16 engines. Closed chamber,
small ports and not considered a performance head. The A87 is the
more popular head and came in open (rare) and closed (peanut)
chamber. The L16 variety has a volume of ~35cc and is easily done up with
larger valves and porting ~38mm is safe before you strike water. The A10 W53
head is somewhere in between these, it's a peanut head but has
smallish valves but reasonable size ports. Not used much for performance
L16 engines but goes great on a stock L18 block as they're cheaper than
high top pistons.
What's the best head for performance in a L16?
A87
or V912 (35cc) The L18 versions are 41cc, so measure before you buy as they
look identical.
I know this thread was explored a little while ago but i didn't pay
attention at the time..
I am helping a young guy try and get his 510 going faster for historic
racing (on a very limited budget)
Way
to go, historic racing is affordable and fun in a 1600 (:- unusual for young
ppl to get into though as it's known as the sob class.

Any help gratefully accepted
cheers
