Mick,
The A87 head has the better chamber shape and should have larger ports than
the 210 wedge chamber head. If you are lucky, the A87 may also have large
ports (37.5mm), some 42mm inlets and 35mm exhaust valves as well. This
would be ideal for a good grunty cheap build price 1600 race engine. If the
A87 has the smaller 30 mm ports these are little restrictive but will do
for a budget build up. If finances allow, another alternative would be to
use a U67 head and weld up the chambers and reshape them the same as A 87
head (peanut chamber) then surface grind the head. This way you get 37.5mm
ports with minimal effort and good squish. The L16 loves a light flywheel
for race work, if you want I could send you a page from the comp tune up
manual with flywheel lightening specs. Good luck with the build up.
Cheers
Feral Errol

Subject: L16 cyl heads

I need some info on cylinder heads as fitted to L16's.
I am looking at 2 motors and one has an A87 head and the other has a
A210(?)
What's the difference?
What's the best head for performance in a L16?
I know this thread was explored a little while ago but i didn't pay
attention at the time..
I am helping a young guy try and get his 510 going faster for historic
racing (on a very limited budget)
Any help gratefully accepted
cheers
Mick
