On most modified cars i've seen, they have the surge tank close to the fuel 
tank in the boot. This way you can have a pre-fuel pump to the surge tank 
and a main one to the injectors. (thats what i've seen anyway)

It does have to mounted vertically cause to keep the fuel supply constant, 
thats why the tank thin and long.
