David,
>From what I hear from my former colleagues who jumped out and into the
private providers scene, Canberra has a shortage of qualified IT ppl since
the Govt in it's wisdom outsourced some of it's IT business. Some Federal
Departments still have their own IT Divisions and others piggy back off
agencies - it's a dogs breakfast and it's costing the taxpayer a fortune as
OGIT couldn't organise a poke in a brothel. The private providers are
finding IT staff are transient and they're always recruiting and pinching
each other's tec's but still no one wants to pay for the training (funny
that as it's the expensive part) - it's quite interesting to watch from the
outside. Most depts have gotten rid of their trained experts with all of the
local knowledge and end up hiring them back as consultants on $120-$200 per
hour.
