If its an OHC engine with cross flow head then
its valve gear is a bit trickier than a Datto, but you will be

Assuming above, remove the cam drive
sprocket. The chain tensioned spring will move the tensioned stop
upward and the tensioner outward, but this is OK.
Loosen all the head studs and remove the rocker
gear and the oil pipe above the cam. Try to keep the whole
assembly together on the tubes the rockers are fitted to, by lifting at
each end and pushing towards the center. The springs between each
rocker want to push the assembly apart.
If you do pull it apart, note how each bit fits
together.
Lift out the cam and pull up the
head.
Reassembly is the reverse. I would flip the
end cam bearing shells top to bottom to share the wear more
evenly.
Before refitting the cam sprocket assembly,
you need to push down the cam chain tensioner spring with a long thin
screwdriver to allow the tensioner to rotate to the slack
position. When the sprocket is on the cam, retension the cam
chain by simply withdrawing the screw driver
Unlike a datto, you must reset all the valve
gear. ( I know you should recheck on a Datto also but you can get away without
doing so.)

List, my friend has a Mazda 1500 that we are
going to be removing the head.
Basically is overheated and now something in it
is stuffed. We will remove the head to find the problem then fix
it.
BUT! I have no idea how to remove the head on a
Mazda 1500!!
Can it be much harder than a Datsun OHC? Does
anyone have any tips on tricky stuff or can they give me a basic
walk-through?
