Errol,
I have located 4 (!) Gazelle rear ends at Moore Spares in Campbelltown (they are a Nissan specialist and seemed very knowledgeable and helpful - If anyone in Sydney is reading this).
I do not want to run the drum brakes at all, because they have been exposed to the elements and have been roughly handled.
They told me that there is a thick and a thin axle Gazelle.
We pulled apart a HE37? and a HE38? axle code Gazelle, but both were thick axles - SERIOUSLY thick, nice one Errol!
They said that the R31 swap probably wouldn't work and that the best bet would be to run the small axle spec. centre with TRX axles and discs.
I had a look at a R31 disc setup while I was there and can see no reason why it won't work, maybe the threads or offsets don't match or something.
I would like to pay the small amt. extra and get thick axles and R31 discs, rather than break up my good TRX assembly and have to worry about axle breakage.
What are your recommendations - do I need R31 axles? or will it all go together no worries?
Did you do the R31 disc brake conversion to the Gazelle-Stanza that you mentioned?
Thanks for your good advice Errol.
Regards,
Nick.
PS Those Gazelles would make a good base for a Turbo 2 Litre conversion - rear wheel drive, 2-door hatch, swoopy aero styling, pop-up headlights, vented front discs, but essentially a good ol' datto underneath.
