Check out the rack steering in a 240Z.  These are similar vintage to a 1600
and have the same ball joint mounts.  I dont know any one who has done it in
Oz but our US listers and others have, as its necessary if you drop in a
VG30.
Racks are more direct in their feel and have less tendency to develop slop
as they have shim adjustment and use only one tie rod at each end.
Be careful to set any rack up in the right place and make sure its the right
length.  If it isn't you can build in dangerous bump steer characteristics.
