NAT,

Familiar engine eh Brad, but I think it could have a 87.8mm bore and it will
be 1889cc which an old favourite of ours for the L18 block. I think Brad was
on the money, sounds like worn lash pads are the likely problem as your
adjustment technique is perfect. You could try doing them warm with whatever
specs that Datrally suggest (likely to be plus 2 thou cold spec) for the cam
and see if that helps.

It is a L18 bored to 1887mm with a big port head and a
hotish cam, Twin 45 webbers on a datrally manifold
which is match ported.   Datsun Specials HM headers, 2
1/4 exhaust.  EI dissy.  And it runs on normal super.
And thats all I know. Sorry!  I DO know it make 108Kw
at the rear wheels! I also know that power comes on at
3300rpm approx and finishes at 7200 rpm approx.
I leave the car over nite before I adjust them so they
are always cold and I set them with the lobe pointing
up and then I loosen the lock nut slide the feeler
gauge in between the rocker arm and the cam and then
adjust the adjusting bolt until I obtain my clearence,
and then keep the feeler gauge in there and I then
tighten the locking nut and then check again with the
feeler gauge until it is perfect,- I repeat this as
many times until it is correct.The engine is about 4
yrs old, but I have no idea as to stats on the engine
other then what I have already told you above, Sorry
about that.
