It is a reasonable way to advance the timing to find the limits, be careful
though as you can't always hear detonation and on ULP fuel you can't expect
to be able to advance by more that 2-4 degrees over standard. If you are
using PULP then you can go to 6 but I'd be reluctant to go any higher. If
the car has AirCond then test it out up a fairly steep hill in warm
weather, always a good test.

Subject: Engine Timing Mods?
Ive got a stockie astra that i drive around (E15) and am stuffing around
with the ignition timing. As standard they specifiy +2 degrees (ATDC).
Im slowly advancing the timing by 2 degrees or so every now and again
(up to 2deg BTDC now). Im just going to go in 2 degree lots till it
starts pinging and then drop it back a bit.
Is this a reasonable way to do it??
