Thanks terry
Actually I think I may have the problem solved. I think i turned the crank 180 to get the rear rocker arms off and didn't put it back properly.
Thing seems to be running better than ever so...  I'm just giving the cooling system a flush to remove the oil and we'll see what happens..
Thanks for your help (again). Will let u know how it all goes.
cheers
Mick

Mick,

Your valve clearances in metric are spot on for Cold settings.

Hot Inlet 0.25 mm or 0.010" and Hot Exhaust 0.30 mm or 0.012"

On the cam timing, seeing as how you chocked the chain tensioner the only way you could have got everything 180 degrees out is the cam  got turned and then the sprocket got turned to suite, there is just no other way you could have done it. Although I was technically correct in saying you can't fit a cam 180 degrees out you can fit a cam in either of two positions and the engine doesn't know the difference but this is a bit confusing - what you have done is put your dizzy driveshaft out 180 degrees.

regards
Terry

Hi terry
Thanks for the quick reply.
I feel better now but i can't understand how this happened.. I set the engine to TDC on no 1 before i removed the head and with the chain blocker in place i can't see how i could have rotated the motor that much .Oh well  no harm done but it is a puzzle...
Any thoughts about the metric measurements for the valve clearances?
anyway   thanks again
cheers
Mick
