Steve,
A mate and myself tried this out awhile ago. We tried some of those
disposable argon bottles you can get now using a WIA 150S. We have both done
a bit of welding before and we had considerable trouble setting up the MIG
for the job. In the end he got someone to TIG it for him.
MIG doesn't seem that great for Ally work. Not enough control. The guys at
work use it for doing the really heavy Ally sections, but everything else is
TIG'd.
You also should get a teflon lined handpiece/cable or you can have wire feed
problems. BOC gasses (previously CIG) have some info available in MIG Ally
welding if you want to give it a try.
I personally wouldn't recommend it!

You have to crank the wire speed and amperage up I was using about
150Amp I think on 3mm to get adequet penetration. To much amperage and
the weld became pourous(holes). I tried it using BOC gases Argoshield
100 (all I had), the gas must have Helium in it because it leaves a
black soot on the welds. You need pure Argon. I was able to get a decent
weld but you need practice and be careful you dont warp it. I have been
meaning to try pure Argon but my MIG's wire feed is causing me problems
at the moment.
