They can pick up your radar detector about 10 metres away depending on its 
power.  So they know your have one when the signal stops after they pass 
you.  They leak out the same place the signal comes in.  So you cannot 
shield them and keep them working.  They are transmitters and receivers of 
about the same efficiency.  The only ones that are stealth are ones which 
contain multi stage mixers in them, ie shift the signal from 4GHz to 70MHz 
then to DC, these are more expensive than the simple diode detectors 
mentioned below.  To make the simple diode ones stealth they reduce the 
gain in the receiver circuit but this makes them less sensitive meaning you 
have to be closer to the police to detect them.
