Since we are on the subject of car wiring.. i have a couple of questions
that have Ive been wondering about for a little while:
1. What is the inhibitor relay used for? From what i can tell its the switch that stops the car from starting when the car is in reverse or gear? is that right? Reason i am wondering is cos my other car's relays are broken now and it was an auto. Now its a manual i expect i can just hard wire the connection from the relay so when the ignition is on the car is on... This is how its done in a manual right? 2. Is there a reason why car manufacturers dont run both low and high beam filaments at the same time? Would this cause the bulb to blow quicker or is it cos it draws more current? This is what i can tell from looking at the wiring diagrams anyway... thanks

On a 1600 or any car that has dual 4.75" lights mounted in the grill then all 4 lights are considered headlights and must have refracted glass set for dip for whichever side of the road you drive on. Auxiliary lights are driving lights i.e. mounted on a bull bar or bumper bar and to be legal they must not be mounted above the centre line of the headlights.Upgrades to QI lights for all 4 headlights is common from fairly inexpensive made in china brands to Cibie, Hella etc. The standard bulbs for the outers are 60/55w H4 and 55w inner H1. The standard relay and wiring in theory can take this load as the draw is not much different from the OEM sealed beams but as the standard wiring is fairly ordinary after 30 years I would still recommend that a high beam relay is used as per my wiring instructions that's posted from time to time. The standard 35 amp alternator can handle this load also but if you upgrade to 100w inners then a 50-60 amp alternator is recommended depending on how much night driving you do in one stint - any more than 1 hour then the higher output alternator is required.regardsTerry --membersozdat------------------------------------------------------- OZDAT Mailing List Please Note:- Send (un)subscribe requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send submissions to [EMAIL PROTECTED] No unauthorised redistribution of this email http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/index.htm http://www.ozdat.com/ozdatonline/listindex.html http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
