The rules change all the time but currently they are. If you are
using the low volume import laws you can't bring in any vehicles which
someone here has already imported under high volume import, like 200sx, WRX
and 300ZX. You can still bring in other vehicles like FTO's and GTR's (the
years that weren't sold here). There is a sunset clause of 15 years so
after that you can bring them in.
If you are bringing the car in under personal import you can bring
in anything you like, including stuff that are already sold here. But the
rules on this have changed recently so you need to own the car, with you in
the country, for 12 months. But this method means you don't need to
compliance it, which can save alot of money like $10,000 in the case of the
GTi-R.
