Nat,
 I had this problem. L16 running on three but if you pulled the lead and
held it near the tip of the plug it was fine. In the end it was a faulty
plug (it was a brand new NGK). In the dark you could see the spark arcing to
the plugs base from the boot when the lead was on. I replaced everything
except the plug trying to figure it out! Eventually I tried swaping the plug
to another cylinder and the problem moved with it! Aha! Changed it put all
the old leads back and it was fine. Must have been a manufacture fault.

 Seeing as you prob is on two cylinders it may not be this but it's easy to
check.
